Good news! Your practice no longer needs to rely solely on card payments to keep your bottom line ticking. splose Direct Debit is the easier and lower cost alternative to card payments. Plus it saves hours of time each week having to manually chase recurring card payments. Here’s everything you need to know on what’s changed, how much money and time you’ll save and how to get started, right away.

How does Direct Debit work in splose?

Direct Debit lets you securely pull payments from a client’s bank account, rather than charging a credit or debit card. To do this, you add your clients BSB and Account Number one time. This is how the client gives you permission to automatically withdraw your payments from their bank account. After that, you can seamlessly charge them for each session. No more client follow ups for credit card details. No more delayed payments due to card issues. No more credit card fees eating into your revenue. Direct Debit is the go-to method for recurring billing in Australia and now lives natively inside splose.

Let’s talk numbers

At around 2–3% per transaction, card payment fees can seriously chip away at your revenue. Direct Debit in splose keeps things simple and cheap: $0.70 + 1%, capped at a maximum of $4.00. If you're running a high-volume clinic or processing large invoices for NDIS services, those savings compound fast. Let’s look at these costs add up on a standard $150 invoice:

Using splose Direct Debit, you save $1.78 per invoice. If your practice processes 100 such invoices a month, that’s an extra $178 back in your pocket monthly, or over $2,000 a year.

What kinds of practices could benefit from Direct Debit?

Saving money is a priority for all businesses. But in Allied Health, Direct Debit is an absolute superpower for the following types of practices:

  • NDIS Providers: Direct Debit is a staple for NDIS billing. Clients with plan managers don't use cards or simply prefer bank transfers for ongoing care. Direct Debit opens up a hassle-free avenue for them.
  • Practices with regular clients: If you see a regular number of clients every week or fortnightly, Direct Debit completely removes any payment friction at checkout. Add the direct debit details once, then effortlessly charge after each session.
  • Margin-conscious clinics: When you're processing a significant volume of invoices, the difference between a 1% fee and a 3% fee is huge.

How does Direct Debit work with splose?

Right now, Direct Debit in splose is practice-initiated. This means you set up the authorisation on behalf of the client from right inside their profile. This makes it easier for your clients as well since they don’t need to log into a separate portal. We’re even working on a feature that will allow clients to set this up themselves during online booking in the future.

Here’s how to set up Direct Debit in four easy steps:

  1. Head to the client’s profile in splose.
  2. Set up a Direct Debit details (BSB & Account Number).
  3. Once active, Direct Debit will automatically appear as a payment option when invoicing that client.
  4. Select it, tap charge, and you're done! The payment clears in 3–5 business days.

The client’s bank details sit alongside any existing cards in their profile. This means you don’t have to juggle between tabs or flick back and forth between splose and some external software. Everything you need in the place you already work.
